My Vaio won't access the internet anymore!
« on: February 28, 2009, 04:50:44 PM »
We have 2 Vaio laptops one purchased January 2008 (black) and the other Nov 2008 (pink). They both have wireless capability and the black laptop when we bought it connected to the internet just fine. My husband deployed overseas and it still worked. But now it won't connect, it connects to the network but won't actually access the internet. It just brings up the "Internet Explorer can not display" page. The pink one connects just fine. I have gone through the network wizzard and it trys to resolve the problem but all it ends up doing is telling me to connect through a cable, which it will connect this way but we want to access with the wireless. Please help!!

Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 30 seconds.
Power them back on.
Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
Restart computer, and check again.
