    Computer Busted after Reformat
    « on: February 27, 2009, 10:03:26 AM »
    Computer Specs:  HP Pavilion 542x
          Windows XP

    Hey everybody,

I need help on my pc, so...
When I start up my computer, right away I get an error on my desktop saying,
"C:\Documents and Settings/Owner/Desktop is not accessible.
        Access is Denied."

as well when I try to install a program I get an error saying,
"Setup was unable to create the directory "C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\is-TLETI.tmp
        Error 5: Access is denied."

and this happened after I reformatted my computer due to an infection(I believe it was a Trojan).

Any suggestions would really mean a lot. Thanx in advance.

So you did a clean install of XP ? ?
Is this an MS XP CD or the "sharpie" version ? ?
Have you re-installed the MBoard drivers from the HP Driver CD that came with the machine ? ?

If I understand correctly I don't think I did, if you mean reinstalling XP w/ CD.

Is this an MS XP CD or the "sharpie" version ? ?
      How do I determine that?

Have you re-installed the MBoard drivers from the HP Driver CD that came with the machine ? ?
Well, I don't think so because I don't recall a HP Driver CD coming with the machine.

Want to add I have never re-install a MBoard drive w/ HP Driver CD. ??? ;D

In your title you said you did a reformat.
Formatting erases everything on the drive so if you did do this you would boot to an error message and/or a blank screen...
Explain what exactly you did and we can go from there...
In answer to the 2nd question just describe what it says on your Windows and or HP CD's so we know what we're dealing with.

As far as the Driver CD all machines ship them...however all is not lost as we can run diagnostics on the machine to determine what drivers are needed...but the machine needs to be able to boot to Windows (not always ) first.

So let us know what exactly you have tried so far and what the machine is doing now...

Ok, I retraced my steps and what I actually did was a System Recovery pressing F10 many times after the computer starts sending me to HP PC System Recovery-whoops, sorry about the confusion. :-[

The answer to your 2nd ? is that it starts normally with what I replied before and its Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.  I hope this will help. ???

Also, I found a CD but I think its for my printer, this is what it has on it HP PSC 1400-1600 CD version 4.7.1 and its scratched a little bit.
