    No audio device?
    « on: March 04, 2009, 10:56:48 PM »
Hello!  I need help!!  Last week my audio was working just fine....and now it is completely gone! When I go to the control panel it says no audio device and I can't figure out what to do!!  I've tried downloading audio drivers from the dell website...but it says the hardware is missing.  I have a dell inspiron E1505 and I'm pretty sure it's Windows XP.  Anybody have any ideas?  Thanks!!

try to turn off your desktop and take out the sound card. clean it with an eraser and take it back from where it was. turn on again your system and try to look for the device manager and look for the speaker icon.

      It is a laptop, yes?

From my searching that is what I found anyway...

Did you perhaps, disable the audio controller in the BIOS?

99.9% of laptops do not have a removable sound card, so do not worry about that.

Can you roll back the drivers?

open device manager by typing in devmgmt.msc into the run option on the start menu of XP or below, if using vista, type it into the search box on the menu and push enter.

find you sound card in the list of hardware, right click it and select properties.

Under the driver tab, see if there is an option to 'roll back' driver.

I tried to roll back some of the sound drivers listed under the sounds, etc., tab....but it kept saying there was nothing to roll back to.  I did notice that when I checked the System speakers...it said there were none...could that be a problem?  thank you so much for your help!!
