No sound... Tried everything! Please help!!
    « on: March 18, 2009, 09:41:05 AM »
Ok, I went through alot of old files and deleted some things. Apparently I deleted a file that is needed for my speakers on my laptop to work, and I can not get it fixed now. I have tried all of the troubleshooting, looking online and downloading windows drivers, updating drivers, system restore.... I can not get it right. I also tried downloading the Quick Launch for my touch buttons, b/c the volume display onscreen has also disappeared. Headphones do play sounds, but not the speakers. And no system sounds on headphones either.... just music from my music. Please tell me you can help me... Thanks!!!

    My Laptop:
    HP Pavilion Entertainment PC
    Windows XP
    Media Center Edition
    Version 2002
    SP3
    Genuine Intel CPU
    T1350 @ 1.86GHz
    1.86GHZ, 504 MB RAM

      Just reinstall the sound drivers.
Please do not call your computer stupid when it breaks or lags. Computers can only do what they are programmed to. and thus, often it is the user that is stupid. GET MY DRIFT?

uninstall drivers and reinstall. That probably is your problem.

I have already done that. I tried to update them first, no luck. Then uninstall and reinstall, nothing. I am sorry but I do not know what the file names were that I deleted. All I know is they were in the C Drive folder, at the bottom. Notepad files with odd names and only a line or two of text. Eample of one of the file names there- File name: 09425601b247fb0f884d. Could that have even affected the sound? Some one I know looked at it the other day and opened up the bottom of the laptop. I was talking to him about adding memory. Do you think he might have hurt something? All he removed was the little plastic pannel over the memory card.... I am afraid I will have to reformat. When I press the power buttont o manually shut down(having trouble shutting down due to computer freezing up) the speakers make an odd noise like static, or the sound you hear from a microphone when you rub your hand over it. Thanks for your help! I really do not want to reformat...

        Try this:
        Start >>> Run
        write this command: services.msc
        and press Enter
Go to: Windows Audio click there and
to the Start up Type be sure that there is Automatic
to the Service Status click Start and OK.

I'm suggesting you this because a lot of viruses cause that even if you delete the virus they stop this application.
        Cheers.

Do a system restore to before you deleted the files.

        1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore

        2. Select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option and click next.

        3. Select the day and the restore point you wish to restore and click next.

Done this 3 times... I can no longer system restore.

Also need to mention, I can listen to my music through headphones, but no systrm sounds .

no system sound, so i guess nothing's wrong with your computer in terms of hardware and drivers? I think it's speakers issue? I'm guessing because i am not at your pc to look at it.
