Hello all,
My computer keeps freezing when I try to install new programs.
Okay I have to be honest it freezes even if I do not install new programs.
I have a HP Compaq nx9420 model.
100GB Hitachi 5m100.
Dual Core 2Gh.
1GB ram.
ATI mobility radeon x1600.
Windows XP.
The problems started a few days ago when I got a weird message from a game called Guild Wars.
When I started the game it prompted a screen and said that the game has to fix itself for some reason. The reason was not stated. Well I did let it.
During the process the computer became very slow and well it was like frozen so I shut it down.
The next day I started the game again and let it try to repair itself again. The computer was again frozen so I decided to let it run, in any case I had to go to do my internship.
When I came back later that day, I think the computer restarted itself at some point because the game was not started and I had some processes running that I normally end task.
So I decided it was time for reinstall.
My laptop does not come with Windows CD but a restore partition. I backed up some of my files and let it restore the computer to factory installation.
What a ride it has been since.
When I try to install a program the computer freezes at some point, restarts itself, but not before giving me a blue screen that flashes so fast all I can see is a bunch of memory addresses in hex.
After that it tries to load again Windows XP and bang it gives me Non-System disk or disk error.
I have to shut it down and start it again.
I decided to revert back to factory installation.
And again the same problem.
I have to be fair. I think it froze a couple of times before the first of those two latest restores. (I have restored the pc a few times before, no problems).
Things I did before the first of the two latests restores.
I though that the game does not start because windows needs a clean reinstall but I did not want to do one so this is what I did before I restored:
1.I ran disk cleanup. *censored* on earth. 20GB compressed files so I let it ran for 1 night and it was only on 20% done in the morning. Well obviously I stopped it. By the way it ran with the laptop clossed so that I could sleep and not see the screen. (No idea if that helps in any way.)
2. Run CCleaner on files, registry and so on. (A couple of times.)
3. Disk defragment: well I tryed that. But I was watching a movie whlie it was runing and at some point: bang if I remember correctly the pc froze and restarted and I think it gave me a blue screen with some error about how windows did it to protect my system.
4. Uninstalled some programs.
5. When I was backing up the files that I wanted to save I got a lot of stupid errors when I was trying to zip my files. It kept freezing when trying to zip some of them so I had to delete those files in order for the zip to be made.
I had to shut it down a lot of times becase windows was frozen.
After the first of the two restores I ran a test on my memory, a test on my harddrive, a test on my video card. Am I missing something? Well the test on my harddrive I ran while I was sleeping so no idea what the conclusion was. It just started windows after it finished.
I think I am hearing some weird noise from the harddisk but this can be my imagination. I use an external dual fan system to cool the laptop so they make noise.
Am I missing something?
I can not install a simple real player. (Okey not simple but I am frustrated.)
Please help.
Do I have to buy new Harddisk?
