    Fan on chip stopped.
    « on: March 25, 2009, 08:09:18 PM »
Hello and thank you for looking at this problem.
I have an AMD Athalon 1 gig ram 260 odd C: Drive and Windows XP Pro.

The install was a clean install on a clean drive.

The fan on the chip was on the way out for some time, being noisy, so I threw a bandaide at it, (oiled it), and true to form it died some ( long ) time later.

I have a box of bits and pieces of computers Ive gathered over the years, fans included.

Can I put any fan on the chip or does it have to be an original AMD fan?

I know all the dedicated people will say " IT HAS TO BE AN AMD FAN" "DONT DO IT" "RELIABILITY ISSUES WILL ARISE" and so on, but really does it? ::)  ;D

Thank you for your educated input. ImnoGuru.

The fan doesn't have to be stock...as long as it keeps the CPU temp down, but most importantly...reliable.

Yep works fine and is a lot quieter now.

I was worried about correct voltages and so on but it all seems fine. ( no smoke leaving the unit so far)  ;D
        Thank you ImnoGuru
