Actually the correlation of Time + Space is what supposedly creates the existence of a 4th dimension...without one or the other the concept is null and void.

that's true.

I believe what helpmeh is driving at is the conceptualization of a 4-dimensional hypercube, and a universe that supports this fourth dimension. One cannot fathom what such a universe would appear as to one of it's inhabitants, being restricted to this lowly 3-dimensional universe of ours.

One can take the same concept the other way, for example, "flatlanders" takes the concept of being living in a 2-dimensional space trying to comprehend a third dimension.

Exactly. I was laughing with my friend when I described to him about what someone's brain would look like if it exploded after understanding that we're actually in the 12th dimension...

here's the problem- these *censored* shows using the word "dimension" to represent parallel universes. confuses the heck out of everybody. Dimension is NOT a synonym for parallel universe, it's just a crappy colloquilism invented to ease the discussion of such.

Agreed...
There are far more parallel universes than there are dimensions...

I meant that as a joke...The "guy" in my story was totally nuts and finally "realised" the "truth".

Never mind the 4th dimension. How about a 3-D presentation of a favorite vacation spot with wrap-around views and sounds.

Nice...I once took about 7 pictures while going in a slow circle, and put them together in powerpoint so that it looks like you're literally spinning in circles...

Yes, it is a space-time continuum -- I keep forgetting!   ::)

I wouldn't be surprised by some sort of holographic projection system becoming more available in the near future.
The basic technologies have been around for thirty to forty years.

    Mathematically it is a known fact and has been scientifically proven that there are at least 11, and perhaps as many as 22 dimensions in what is known as the 'Universe'

    No it's not.

    There is strong mathematical evidence for those models of the universe, but they've not been proved, yet.  This isn't merely pointing and saying, "You're wrong," Laska.  Brian Greene, in his book, "The Elegant Universe," states that he's excited because the research, as it develops, is proving the math models and predictions.

    We're just not quite there, yet.    :)

    unfortunately there will always be people that, no matter what models and history and formulas you throw at them, they still believe something that completely defies the studies and scientific fact.

    Don't look at me, I haven't done any serious batch programming since I was 16.  :)
