You're supposed to run sfc /scannow, not HJT.
    HJT log is clean.

      Go Start>Run, type in:
      sfc /scannow
      Click OK.

Message comes up "Files that are required for windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache  Insert your windows XP home edition cd now."  I take it that the Windows XP program itself is corrupted and I will need to get a new XP disk and reboot the entire operation system?

You cab actually borrow Windows CD, and run sfc again.

Thank you for your help, will try to find a cd tomorrow and give it a try. Just out of curiosity, does that message mean that the operation system is corrupted or just that it needs the disk for other purposes?

And if the shop won't give you you're XP CD tell them you've spoken to Microsoft about it... ;)
