Game Booster

Game Booster can help you to get better performance from your PC while playing resource intensive games. The program accomplishes this by shutting down a series of Windows background services that are normally not needed during game play, cleaning RAM, and intensifying processor performance. Once you are finished playing your game, simply click a button to restart all the services and regain full functionality for regular PC usage.

I haven't used it myself but it looks promising. Has anyone ever used it?

and intensifying processor performance

I wonder what this is, and how it is accomplished?

It does as good as any free product like this is expected to. It shuts off all unnecessary components with a click and then you can restart them just as easy.

It's small, handy, and seems safe plus it's free. ;)

As far as I know it's only recently been re-emphasized ... the thread title just caught my eye in this case.

Game lag has improved, And I get  less of it, .  Also I like the fact that it optimizes your ram. All the gamers that I talk to say you have to eliminate as many background processes as possible. And Game booster doe's this for you. I love it and will use it from here on out unless something better comes around, Thanks Carbon.

I've been using it the past few days. Pretty neat, indeed worth a shot.

Tried it out on my desktop (see specs for it). No difference in any demanding games I tried (Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Crysis). Seem to play as usual. However, I found if you repeatedly switch gaming mode on and off a few times, RAM usage continues to go down each time.

Gaming mode off and on repeatedly with standard options:
      Code: [Select]
      On: 37% to 36%
      Off: 36% to 37%
      On: 37% to 35%
      Off: 35% to 34%
      On: 34% to 33%
      Off: Stayed at 33%
      On: 33% to 32%
      Off: Stayed at 32%
      On: 32% to 28%
      Off: Stayed at 28%
      On: 28% to 26%
      Off: 26% to 27%
      On: 27% to 26%

The last two were repeated from there on. Couldn't get it below 26% usage through its standard options. I then had it disable everything except things necessary for my games (Creative control panel, Logitech G-series manager (key manager for Logitech G13), LCD monitor (screen manager for Logitech G13), SetPoint (button and DPI manager for Logitech G5 mouse), Zboard control panel) and my anti-virus. Couldn't get it any lower than 25% though. Like I said, still no difference in games though.

It's a good sales pitch until that phrase.  Then they lose me.   :)
