    No Display on Monitor
    « on: May 17, 2009, 05:57:21 PM »
When I start the computer, the monitor goes into the standby mode after about 5 or 6 seconds.  This computer has not been run for a couple of years, and I just want to see if it is worth trying to get running.  I tried the help Q & A's but could not find one that helped.  Thanks!

Hmm... are you sure the monitor works?

Do you get any picture on startup? (Bios and such)

        CMOS battery may be toast.

Probably... but would that kill video?

Did you try THIS monitor on another computer, or another monitor on THIS computer?

Yes, the monitor I used works fine with it's regular computer.  With the problem one, it acts like it is coming on, and then goes to standby.  If I shut the computer down and then restart it, the monitor does the same thing-comes on for about 5 seconds and then clicks over to standby.  I don't get any display at all because it clicks over so soon.

            Your answer is unclear.
            Let's say, you have:
            computer #1, monitor #1
            computer #2, monitor #2
            Which one works/doesn't work where?

              Sorry!  Computer #1-Monitor #1 - OK
Computer #2-Monitor #1 - Not OK (Computer #2 is problem!)
I used Computer #1's Monitor to check Computer #2

Does the same thing happens in Safe Mode?
If not, then the most likely culprit is video card driver.
If same thing in Safe Mode, then the video card is busted.

Thanks to all who gave me some input for this problem.  After doing some more research, I found that this computer is not worth the time and effort to fix it, and it's construction prohibits any worthwhile upgrades.  Best to all, and I'll be back again, even if only to read posts to gain some more knowledge in this wacky world of computers!
