"My Computer" simply won't load.

I wanted to back up my data on an external hard drive I bought.

However, when I logged onto Windows, (with the hard drive in it's packaging,) I found to my dismay, that "My Computer" won't simply load. It just gives the "browsing" icon.

If on a Windows Explorer window I click the drop down arrow, it simply was not responding once I did.

If I say am on Word, and I open a document, I cannot access "My Computer" without Word freezing up.

If I right-click a document a go to Send To, it freezes up the explorer window.

Any suggestions?
