Audio and some USB devices and other prob......
    « on: June 06, 2009, 08:56:49 AM »
Having several problems related to hardware. First my printer that runs off a USB 2.0 card will give me a RED BANG box telling me the NT Authority Sys. must close in 60 seconds and it does, shutting down/restarting my computer. ( I have run the USB 2.0 driver disk that i have and reloaded the USB drivers twice). If I unplug the USB cable for the printer to the USB Card I don't get that box warning.

Secondly the sound and audio devices will not funtion at all. My IPod will announce that ITunes will not op. properly because there is a problem with audio configuation. I have no sound devices installed inDevice Manager.

Did a Sys. Restore with out any problems, except nothing is changed hardware wise.

Tried to do a Repair using my Win. XP Pro disk and the files for the repair could not be found on the DVD/CD Drive. Infact the CD for Win. XP Pro could not be seen in the selection box.

I seem to have several problems here. I did do a AVG scan and and have Webroot's AV/Firewall enabled.

Am I looking at a complete reinstall of XP Pro?

    Thanks for any clues!

Everything was fine...my wife said "something weird just happened!"as she was reading her office email. She couldn't tell me what the Red Bang said, but the computer just shut down. So I'm thinking malware/virus/trojan. Restarted. Then I do an AVG Scan and then let SpywareSweeper do its scan....nothing.

I notice the HP printer does not work on any of my USB ports.

Yet, my Samsung (off a print port) does.

It gets worse as I realize there is no sound and no recgnized sound devices I Device Mngr.

So the answer is yes, things happened all at once, suddenly.

No changes in hardware or software. SpySweeper is always on. AVG only when I want another opinion.

        So what's up with this?!
