    defrag problem

     :(I am using windows xp pro..when I try to defrag it analyzes for about 5% and crashes...puter shuts down.
    can anyone help out.  (It analyzes to determine whether or not I need to defrag)

    Try Safe Mode.

    Right click the C: drive in My Computer...
    Select Tools/Error Checking.
    Let it run to completion without using the machine or interrupting it.
    This may take a few hours.
    Re-boot and see if defrag will run now.....

    BTW what size drive and how much free space do you have ? ?
