Which static IP have you given it, and what kind of connection do you use?

Are you using a broadband router, modem or both?

Read this chapter on setting up Ubuntu internet. It is easy but yet detailed enough to get you through.
it's from the book "Beginning Ubuntu Linux".

???  Huh?  I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 and that video seemed correct to me.

          Hey,
I am new to Linux (started witn Ubuntu 9.04) & cannot config my internet connection... ??? ??? :(
Go watch that video again. As it points out, if you have your computer connected to the Internet when installing Ubuntu, the Internet connection will be automatically detected, meaning your Internet connection will be working immediately after completing installation of Ubuntu.  So, if you did not have your computer physically connected to your modem or router when installing Ubuntu, you might just reinstall it with your computer connected to the Internet.  That's what I would do if I were installing Ubuntu as the sole OS on the computer but perhaps reinstalling it in a dual-boot configuration gets more complicated.

Okay.  Although your ISP told you what IP address to use, that's not your external IP address (which you can see if you go whatismyip.com.  I'm going to take a guess that it's safe for you to let Ubuntu pick up an address by DHCP.  Try changing the configuration to DHCP (using NetworkManager) and see if that improves the situation.

When you say you installed it in Windows, can you just clarify that this is a true dual boot scenario?  I.e. you don't have Windows and Ubuntu running simultaneously?

"Reached the limit" - is that message being generated by Google or your ISP?  If the latter, you may have exceeded your bandwidth limit (which would explain other things too).

I tried through DHCP... but in vain...
And yes its a true dual boot
It asks me to select the OS I wish...
And if ubuntu had been runninng with XP my PC would have commited a suiside.... ;D 512Mb RAM... :(

If I may ask, does your internet connection works with your xp installation?

And does your DNS address in ubuntu points to your ISP?

Thanks for replyin soybean but I installed UBUNTU through Windows...
Hmm, how does one to that?  Do you mean you started your computer with Windows and then began the Ubuntu installation?  I believe the normal procedure, even if creating a dual-boot configuration with Windows and Ubuntu, is to boot from your CD drive with a disk containing the Ubuntu installation files. The installation procedure recognizes the existence of partitions already on the hard drive; it would not erase your Windows partition unless you tell it to.

I believe you would see basically the same thing on the screen whether installing Ubuntu as the sole OS or installing it under a dual-boot configuration.  So, your methodology to all this seems quite strange.

I believe he means that he used the Wubi installer in Windows to create a dual-boot configuration.

                These are good questions.

Aside from the above, it's possible that Ubuntu has not correctly installed the drivers for your network card.

Within Ubuntu, bring up a terminal, enter the following commands, and if you possibly can, (e.g. by saving to a intermediate file) cut and paste the output in this thread:

                  ifconfig
                  route
                  traceroute www.yahoo.com

Try to restart your network connection.

                      Try to do:

                      sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
                      <enter your password>

Then check again if you could connect to the internet
