Some really fantastic photos
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:18:12 AM »
I just wanted to share some really great photos with everyone. These were all taken by my father, unless the notes say otherwise.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/prairiefireimaging

You can actually see me in one (sitting on a quad on top of a dune in Oklahoma). The one of my father riding up a sand wall was taken by me (years and years ago). The rest of them are from places all across America, but mostly stuff west of the Mississippi.

Indeed, you have some fantastic photos there.  I'm also impressed with the narrative prepared for some of the photos.

Yes, you look smashing in your helmet!   :)

I also thought I saw you along the horizon of one of those lightning strikes.  I imagine you father had said, "Now, go out there and hold up this length of metal so I can get the shot!"  "Don't worry -- it only tingles for a while!"

(Just teasing.) ;D

An extremely nice collection of photograph.

We thank you.

Shocking experience that was.

The young boy in some of the other photos is not me, by the way. That'd be my younger brother.

Those photographs are just bloody amazing.
The framing, the composition, the use of lighting, depth of field....

I have so many questions.

How long have you been shooting?
What format do you prefer?
Do you shoot film stock or digital?
Have you found a good digital camera for infrared?
Which camera and format do you prefer as a field camera?
Which system did you use for the lightning shots?
Have you ever used TLR, or only SLR?

We need to chat.

These were all taken by my father

The only one that's mine if the one of him trying to climb that sand wall. The rest are his.

Can you ask him those questions for me?  I would really appreciate it.

<edit>  I used to be the staff photographer for Chan International Modelling Agency.  So I'm very interested.  </edit>

I've forwarded your questions to him. He's currently out and about around the west coast I think. I'll let you know when he replies.

Nice pictures! Like Quantos, I am also interested in getting into photography.  What camrea did he use? What lens or flash? How can I learn more about photography?

Like Quantos, I am also interested in getting into photography.

I was a proffesional photographer, my questions were for personal reasons.
If you want to get into photography then there are a few suggestions I can make.

1. Visit or sign up to Photo.Net.
2. Take a look at the reviews on cameras, and try to find one that has some good MANUAL settings available as well as auto settings - within your price range, of course.
3. If you already have a camera, then ignore post two, until/unless you want to upgrade, the nice thing about digital is that it is cheaper to operate than one that uses film stock.
4. Go take pictures of stuff that you like.
5. To learn more about the technical aspects of photography there are some great books on the subject, or you can get the information for free from the link that I provided.

Like the Nike ad's say, Just Do It!
It's rewarding, and fun.
