My fan Is ready for take off
    « on: July 04, 2009, 06:42:15 PM »
Hi all hope your having a good day.

So I have a HP desk top, running Vista, I have AVG free and I just got Ad aware just because of my fan.

But it still has not slowed down.  It sounds like a scan is running.

I tried to delete all my cookies. Looks like done

I have blowen the Tower of dust.

I have no idea of what else I can do. Please can anyone help?

Can you be a little more descriptive in what is happening? Is your fan running at full all the time? Does it happen as soon as you boot up? Even when the comp has been left off for a while.

Sorry I thought I gave enough info.

But Yeah last night the fan would not stop Going at top speed constantly.

Then so far today. It will be good for about 10 Min's then start up for about 5 Min's. Then stop again.

Yes it does it even if I had it powered off for about 12 hours.

Like I said before. It's like there is a scan running, but I have looked and have run a scan to see if anything has got by AVG.

      Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
      Post your computer temperatures:

Provide processor info (hold Windows logo key, and hit Pause/Break key to find out).

Just to make sure, we have correct readings, when you're done with second SF reading...

        Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
        Open it.
In left pane expand Computer folder.
        Click once on Summary
Click Sensor, and post the numbers from there as well.

Well, SpeedFan indicates very serious overheating.
If I were you, I wouldn't use this computer, until the problem is solved.
Since you cleaned inside, and all fans are running, you may need to reapply thermal paste, possibly install an extra fan.

Everest link works for me. Try here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_everest_home/tech/

The Everest version seems to be too old for your computer.

Download, and install Everest Ultimate Edition 4.6: http://www.lavalys.com:8081/everestultimate460.exe
Enter following registration code to make it fully functional:
                  RHGJE-54X47-HML9C-V498I-UUMVI
(it's all legal, the above version has been recently offered as a free download)
See, if it can read Sensor temperature values.

It should be under Help>Enter product key

I though, you did cleaning already, but if you didn't, use a can of compressed air (AND NOTHING ELSE), and repeat the cleaning.

Your AMD max temp is listed at 70C-72C (depending on model), so you're boiling it.
                      Turn it off.

I did just a quick blow on the vents on the out side.

Now That I said that. Don't think thats a good Idea. Becuase I could blow dust inside.

LOL I almost used a whole can of Dust-off and Froze my hand. The dust Bunny's were like 2" thick.

But it's done and so far the fan has not came on at all. LOL

This is what the heat is like now.

Yeah, those temps are still way too high for idle computer. Not critical anymore, but still high.
My previous advice about reapplying thermal paste, and maybe an extra fan, are still valid.

Yeah I'll see about getting a extra fan. I'm kind of thinking it the weather out side too. Raining off and on Plus it's warm and Humid.

The room temperature has only limited influence.
You need to get those temps under 30C.

                                    Really.

How many fan's you have in it?

Is it smart to put a House hold Fan on it?

I have only three fans: one on the back panel, CPU fan, video card fan.
Yeah, until you fix it, open the case, get a house fan, and point it toward the case. It should help a bit.

So my screen is vary close to it. Do you think the heat from my 22" screen and play a part too?

Nah. It' even better, if it's elevated. I assume, you have some open space around it.

Just wanted to mention that I service HP Desktops for my employer and we had a rash of them with thermal compound failures causing them you sould like an airplane ready for lift off. Ours are socket 478 Pentium 4 systems. The thermal compound becomes chalky and fails to transfer the heat to the 1lb block of copper heatsink. After removing the heatsink and taking q-tips to carefully wipe off the failed compound and have 2 clean surfaces the CPU top and the heatsink surface, I added Artic Silver Thermaltake to the CPU and fastened down the heatsink and had a 60 ->65 degree C drop to 35-> 40 degree C.

The Pentium 4's naturally run hot anyways, and the problem we had prior to fixing this was that they were too loud for the offices sounding like jet engines, and they were thermalclocking down to protect themselves from CPU meltdown, which was causing the systems to become NOISEY and SLOWER.

Check your thermal compound to make sure it is not dried up, and have arctic silver or another higher end thermal compound to apply new to the surface after cleaning the old away with q-tips carefully.

***Also FYI: We also had a rash of these also have power capacitors near the heatsink that were swolen and leaking electrolyte out of their tops in which 5 of 20 systems had to become decommissioned due to risk of smoke show or fire. I contacted HP and India Support were oblivious to this issue.
