    Disable "Restart on error" feature...

    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
    3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
    4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
    5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

You may see some error message. If so, post back what it says.

    Also...

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
    2. Double-click System.
    3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
    4. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).

    ...and...

    Open Windows Explorer.
    Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
Vista users. You may need to copy .dmp files, paste them into some other folder, or desktop, and zip them there.

Doesn't sound like it's crashing, though. Sounds more like it's going into sleep or hibernation.

What you told me to do for the frist set of steps was already done.
                    For
the secound set of steps I can't make the file dumb thing that small.
For the thing you told me to type into exploer did not work.

What do you mean by "make"?
All you need to do is:
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k)..

                    Nothing to type.
                    Open Windows Explorer.
                    Expand C folder.
                    Expand Windows folder.
                    Click once on Minidump folder.
You should see some dmp files in the right pane.

No, it has Vista instructions. Read what is in parentheses.
It's not that hard to read 4 lines CAREFULLY.

                                        They're fine for laptop.

If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.
If you have only one RAM stick installed...
                                        ...run memtest: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html

Which model of HP Pavilion dv3500 is it?
Look at the label on the back of the laptop.
It should have 2 more letter after "3500".
The model I checked has originally 2GB of RAM installed (not 4GB like yours).

OK. You have just 1 4GB module installed.
                                            Run memtest.

Is this laptop still under warranty?

Do NOT post any logs in THIS thread.

If your computer will check out as clean, I'd take advantage of the warranty.
We don't want to monkey around to void it.
