OpenOffice 2.4.1 for Windows Question
« on: July 14, 2009, 03:35:25 PM »
Hi,

I have Windows 98 and I need to open .docx and .xlsx files.
MS Office 2007 can open these but it won't work on anything older than XP.
The newer OpenOffice Suites (3.x.x) also won't run on 98.
Can Open Office 2.4.1 (which is the last version to work on 98/ME) open these formats?

No. Only Open Office 3.0 will.

There are couple on-line converters though:

I have Windows 98 and I need to open .docx and .xlsx files.
Where did those files originate?  Can you ask the source to send you files in .doc and .xls format instead of .docx and .xlsx?  MS Office 2007 can save files in the older format.  That could be a solution for you.
