why don't you just enable hibernation on your computer, and set it to hibernate after an hour... ;)

START>Control Panel>Power Options
Hibernation takes toooooo long. I prefer the Stand By option. It doesn't shut the PC down completely (power is only being directed to the RAM) but it has a very fast stand-by and resume speed.

Of course my idea of 'Green Computing' starts with a piece of hardware that is commonly known as a 'Blunt'...   ;)

all of my electricity comes from nearby dams. So my computers only use non-polluting, renewable power. That's as green as you can get. ;)

Good point Harry I'm having some issues with Folding. I should re-post on Folding but generally as a rule not many folk check on that.

All tasks are suspended while on standby. Standby puts the processor into a low power state (basically downclocks it to 0Mhz). with my laptop, if I boot into XP, put it into standby, and bring it out again, the CPU only throttles back up to 16 megahertz, rather then 2 ghz, so things are rather slow.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

It burns up my internet connection sometimes where It's impossible to access the internet. I have no other programmes running at the time. I turn off Folding and everything goes back to normal.

3 of my 4 workstations are on 24/7......
I also drive the convertible with the A/C on full blast whenever the opportunity presents itself.
I turn lights on at bedtime because our area is in an economic slump and i'm trying to keep as many people employed as i can...

I'm pretty far from Green.

My last foreman did that, he had the truck so confused that when it had a half tank of fuel left it thought it could only go about 55km.
