Canon mp700 printer

I have a friend in Africa who has a canon mp700 printer. It is not easy for him to get it fixed when it needs repairs. He sent a message to me today asking for help. Where do I  find what error messages mean? Today it was check printer # 343. Does anyone know what this means or where to find out what it means? Thanks ?

Has your friend properly installed drivers? Have virus protection? Made any changes to his/her system lately?
