Need help with this software

I need some help. Trying to understand how to use the DownThemAll software I downloaded. Here is a link to the site of what I got http://www.downthemall.net/
The problem is I don't understand what the filter stuff does and what do they mean about renaming mask thing? I don't even know how to do the settings correctly either. It doesn't seem to be working like I thought it would. So, I don't know if I'm just not understanding how to use it.

see this link for an explanation of what the renaming mask does. I think it basically sets rules for automatically naming files (if you prefer to have files named a certain way so you can easily find it) or automatically set specific download locations by a rule you set for files you download.

Also, here, this second link lists the features coming with downloadthemall (which is a download manager addon for firefox)

Once you get it working, it's pretty simple to use and it works well.
