When u state does not turn on, no power to the device? Or u can not connect to the device. Not sure what u mean by wireless switch? Is it a WAP (wireless access point) or a wireless router. Networking Protocols r a international standard, meaning it has to follow the same protocol irregardless of OS or country u r living. The standard has to applies the same to MS, OS X and Linux or the country.

Granted the way u configure or check the networking hardware might be different in each OS, but the results have to be the same. For example in MS u type ipconfig /all and u get a short list of networking info. In Linux and MAC OS X, u have to type ifconfig. U get  the same infor (maybe a lot more info). But the end result will be the same, more or less the same info.
Dell uses either Intel or Broadband wireless antenna's.  On your settings down on the bottom u have a Broadband Network controller. This is the wireless antenna.
Need to know if u have a WAP or wireless router to help more.

        Hello midsail,

Thanks for your response. I have since solved the problem by rebooting linux with a previous version of the kernel (thanks to tips from the guys at Fedoraforum.org)

        Thanks anyway! ;)
