Or maybe it's an acronym that ends up spelling that, but at the same time they couldn't
pass up the opportunity to use a "swear" in a programming name, as it then gives high-school students everywhere a valid reason to say it.

Agreed.
If this were true any yo-yo with an agenda would be doing this daily and we'd see stories about it all the time.

BTW do you know what methods are used to prevent DOS attacks and how they work or are you just repeating something you heard ? ?

street signs and web servers don't need the same techniques to be brought down.

Although a shovel or vehicle could be used to physically DoS a server.
