In the other post he says:

i have a compaq presario 4540

its not that old it has
16 mb ram  Sad
233 mhz processor
maybe windows 95

That makes it an AMD K6 MMX 233 MHz

It's not worth the time, effort or money to keep that thing going, unless he just wants to learn about older computers.

I've worked on those. when Compaq was Compaq, not HP.  The BIOS in those is just awful, sometimes impossible to access.

the PS/2 configuration error happened ever since i unpluged the mouse/keyboard
(with it off of cource)
it doesnt post unless all power is cut off before turning it back on
that means a soft boot also fails

Pull the CR2032 battery and test the voltage, should be very close to 3.0VDC with no load.

No.  Replace it.  Under load, it's probably dropping much lower.

the keyboard is a input device.

therefore using a USB keyboard in a PS/2 port would require a USB TO PS/2 converter (in the direction of data flow).
