Windows Firewall will not start in Vista
    « on: September 09, 2009, 07:37:38 PM »
I am having problems starting the Windows Firewall .   I received the message " Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running.  Do you want to start the Firewall service?
I continue to receive an error message in response to this question that says "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall Service."

I removed MaAfee Security completely, but I still get this same message.  One of the HP support guys thought that something called install HinfSection was missing from the installed list.    The HP All-in-One software will not let me install a new printer unless the Windows Firewall is working properly.

    Can you help?

Open a command prompt (run as administrator) and enter the following command: NETSH FIREWALL RESET
    Followed by ENTER
    Reboot
    Did that help?

No.   It says the "Service has not started" after I enter the NETSH FIREWALL RESET
      command.

Windows Firewall Authorization Driver won't be listed there.
        Go Start>Control Panel>Device Manager
On the View tab, put a check next to "Show hidden devices".
Look for Windows Firewall Authorization Driver.
Double-click that, and on the Driver tab, make sure the Startup type is set to "Demand".
