Internet is very slow
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:27:45 PM »
Is anyone having problems with the Internet being very slow lately?
It keeps saying stuff like "please wait..."
and just like taking a very long time for some reason for things to come up on the pages/sites.

So you think it's a worldwide problem?  ;D
What you want to know is if other people on your node with your ISP are having a similar issue. You should contact your ISP and let them know you're experiencing this problem.

I am in a chatroom with them at the moment, and nobody else is having the problem. They give me a link http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401526with so many things to do, guess I'll have to wait for someone around to do some of these things as it involves physical things I can't do with unhooking things.
Only other thing too is on my mom's computer, we can't shut it down anymore. Haven't been able to shut it down for years due to this blue screen she gets. Haven't found any repairmen who is able to fix the problems.

1) On YOUR computer, have you run full scans with your AV AND with Malware Bytes?
2) On your MOM's computer - WHAT blue screen?

What browser are you using? I don't know of any browser that says please wait. Is your gaming slow or your browsing?

What type of connection do you have with your ISP (ATT) ?
        o  DSL (which plan?)
        o  Wi-Fi
        o  Dialup

Yes, I run AV and the other scans all the time. We have it set to auto run them everyday in the middle of night. Reason for that is whenever doing a scan, you can't use any other programs because of all the memory it takes and stuff to do the scans.
Due to all my disabilities and being home all the time, I need something to help get my mind off not feeling well and all. So, I love chatting, computer games, surfing the net, so many other things too I like being able to do.

About the blue screen on my mom's computer, everytime she tries to shut it down, it goes to this screen and wont let her shut it down and says this: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
    1. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
    2. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced start up options and then select safe mode.
     Technical Information:
    ****Stop: 0x0000007E
    (0xC0000005, 0XF89569BO
    0xF8A359BO
    0xf8A356B8)
    ***kbdclass.sys-
    Address F89569BO base at F8956000, Datestamp 41107b08"

She doesn't know how to do any of what it says to do above. So, is why she has repairmen try to do it, but so far, haven't found one who is able to fix the problem either.

Not sure if we did the speedtest thing right. One of the things said something about downloading it for your iphone. We don't even have an iphone. Also, it has this map, but doesn't have where we are. The closest to us is Tallahassee, FL which is about a 3-4 hour drive out East to where we are. Here is what it did say in this little box though, if this is correct, it said
    Download speed
    Mp3 File (5 MB) 14 sec
Video Clip (35 MB) 2 min
    Movie (800 MB) 35 min
Then also had some other thing that said 3.05 Mb/s

    Then Upload Speed
    E-mail attachment (1 MB) 25 sec
Photo Gallery (8 MB) 3 min
Video Clip (35 MB) 15 min
and same here another thing similar to download speed that said 0.32 MB/s

    Ping 56 ms

Yes, we have had a router ever since we switched from dialup internet to Bellsouth/AT&T DSL. Not sure exactly the plan, we have, but it's not the lowest one. We have one of the higher ones, but not the highest.
It's hooked on my computer which is in the spare bedroom and goes through the attic and out to my mom's computer which is in the Garage. Without the router she wouldn't be able to use the Internet.
It maybe running a little better though since one of the things it said on the site to try, shutting down the modem/router. So, I did try that. Yes, it says Please wait and then has those 3 little dots/periods after it, while just trying to go to different websites is when it says Please wait...
On my mom's computer I use Mozilla, mine I use IE ever since we had to get rid of Mozilla due to problems it kept having with distorting everything everytime we try and use it on my computer.

The other thing too is it seems we just have so many problems with everything not working right around our house for some reason. For the past 20 years or so, we keep getting this annoying interference that comes through everything when it's happening- the tv, phone, radio/stereo, computer. It sounds like someone is snoring. Nobody has been able to figure out what is causing it.
Also, ever since Hurricane Ivan, my mom's cellphone(she doesn't have the internet on it), and even other people who come over too their cellphones don't work right. But we know it's not a problem with the cellphone because it works just fine in other places.
Then the other thing too, we keep wondering if maybe there really is a problem and Bellsouth/AT&T just doesn't want to admit they have a problem, and we keep learning too that even though maybe other people are having a problem, they don't seem to call and report it. Keep having problems with our cable not working right alot of times, and when we call Mediacom, they claim nobody else is having the problems, but then we talk to our neighbors and others and they are having the problems too.

for the interference and considering hurricane ivan i would not doubt some corrosion on maybe a grounding wire somewhere along the way  the same with the slow internet water can do alot of damage to things that people may not see especially salt water if you live near the ocean. The interference problem sounds like something isn't grounded right somewhere it could be at your house the cellphone tower where you live and also maybe the powerlines are not grounded or faulty somewhere in the grid. If there is an antenna not properly grounded or overpowered that noise that you are hearing can happen.

Several reasons why the slow internet wouldn't be due to the hurricane is because the slow internet just started happening, also, we aren't even using a phone line for the internet. We don't use cellphones, iphones, mobile phones any of those for the Internet.
We have DSL which doesn't even use the phone lines at all.
The interference has been going on for over 20 years, way before Ivan even hit. So, wouldn't be that. We aren't even near the ocean though.
