    No display at all

    I turn on my computer, fans turn on, the LED lights up and everything, but there is no video.  I am quite sure I have  onboard video as I dont see a PCI card.  Question is what is wrong firstly and if it is that the onboard video doesnt work, then can I use a PCI card.
    Its an ALASKA computer, not a brand Ive heard of before.

    Either try a different display on your system or try your display on a different system. Let's rule out a bad display before anything else.

      The computer is a desktop.  Regasrding the display,  it works cause I tried it on another computer

      Did anything unusual happen the last time the system worked normally (new hw, sw, virus, error, etc)?

        No error or anything.  The display did start acting weird though.  I started seeing lines, horizontal, and then the display got kind of pixelated, and now it just kaput. 

        Should I plug in a PCI video card or is there hope for the onboard video

        It sounds like the on board video is shot. Try an external card if you have one.

          sorry i didnt know whether that mattered cause I was wondering if I could put in an external card, and not asking about the onboard video.  But yes Ill try an external card.  Once its in, will the computer know anyway which card to use since onboard video w ill still be enabled until I can go to the Bios and disable it?

          Depending on your system you may have to disable onboard video in the bios.

            but how can i see the bios screen before I plug in an external video card.  If my onboard video is busted, then I wont be able to see any video.

              still working on it. i got an external card but it doesnt fit, so i have to g o get a new one.  Ill post back when I get it

              I told the guy that I needed a video card for my computer. He gave me one which turns out to be t he longer pci card, I think its called PCI express.  I have a s hort slot, so I guess I need a PCI card right

              Once again Shasgo you have provided little or no info for us to assist you...
              How can we possibly recommend a vid card when we don't even know what slots are available on the MBoard ? ? ?

                I looked on the internet and this is w2hat I found.  My card is longer and cannot fit the shorter slot in my computer so I need to get a PCI card not PCI express
