    yea i did need a new cd drive.  The funny thing is, I dont know what went wrong with it, cause the last thing I did was pop in a DVD, which of course didnt play, and then nothing would play in the drive.  Anyhow I got me a new cd drive.  I did install the OS to a partition on the HD and then reboot from that and then I cleaned out the partition of the old OS.

    CD/DVD drives give no warnings whatsoever...they just all of a sudden take a dump.
