Pop up ads listed in history??
    « on: October 19, 2009, 08:52:25 AM »
Do pop up ads list in someone's browser history if the person closes the pop up and does not click on it?  I need to know the answer to this question as soon as possible and I have heard yes and no from different people and places.

    Thanks in advance,
    Courtney

Yes, I think they do appear in history. Just clear the history if you're worried.

I've checked my history and don't see any mention of pop ups.  I've got several pop up blockers but Netflix always seems to come through but I can't find any reference to Netflix.

    Where would you see them?

popup URLs will appear in the history list of any browser the popups... "pop-up" in.

Popup blockers- by definition - stop them before they are shown at all and therefore with one installed they will not be added to the history list.

Download, install, become familiar with, and use the "free" CCleaner program on a regular basis.  Along with clearing the browser history, it can also delete the Index.dat files which seem to record the web site addresses you've visited.

I'd recommend you not delete the "Hotfix Uninstallers", however, as they are useful if you need to remove/reinstall a corrupted hotfix.  You should also be aware one of the default settings is "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours".  You may enable or disable that setting.

This is an excellent program used by many.  So good, they provide four different versions:  one with someone's toolbar, one without a toolbar, portable version, and U3 portable version.  Most go to special "builds page" link of Piriform website for access to all four versions.  See CCleaner - Download Builds.

I'd recommend either one of the following:
o  CCleaner - Slim        (Installer, no toolbar)
o  CCleaner - Portable (Zip file, no installer)
