    Word Issue
    « on: November 10, 2009, 07:48:33 PM »
I recently created a few documents and after saving them the icon for these documents appears as a word document icon with an "i" enclosed in a red circle.

What does this mean as far as my documnets are concerned?
They open and are editable without problem.

    Thanks,
    Peter

Does it appear on every Word document? Has it always been that icon?

If it does appear everytime you save a document I'm sure it's nothing to worry about (seeing as it works fine).

If it hasn't always been that icon, then maybe you or someone else has recently installed an Icon package or a new Theme?

It does not appear on every word document, only a few. It might have something to do with the way I save a new document. I generally save it as a word document - Word 97-2007. The reason being that the default "save" with Word puts a .docx file name on a new doc. Many people, I found cannot open a docx format if they have an older version of Word. So I changed the default to the older Word format. Now these document icons  have the "i" in a red circle. Where at Microsoft can I get help in explaining this "phenonomen(?)". As said earlier it is not making anything more difficult, but it is something new, with no logical reason.

        Thanks,
        Peter

I save most documents in .doc format for the same reason (many of my clients don't use 2007) and I've never seen that icon symbol. What's in the balloon when you hover the mouse over the icon?

          Hi Allan,
Thanks for your response. I would like to send you a picture of the icon, in question, but have no clue how to do this within this forum. When I hover over the icon it basically just says the name of the file and Microsoft Word document 97-2003.

Do you know how to capture a picture of the icon?  What OS are you running?  Are you familiar with Paint?

Can you post the picture of the icon so we can see it?

The OP says they have a .jpg image of it.  The reason I ask is that I've never seen this icon.

I wonder if it's not an associated icon from a third party application.

One way to attach an image is to click on "Additional Options..." at the bottom of the forum message composition panel you have open when you are preparing a post.  If you open "Additional Options...", you will see a box to attach a file.  Click the Browse button and browse to your file and select it.

The reason I asked about Paint is that it can be used to crop or resize the image if necessary.

Allan, your missing the point; look at it this way, I've heard of people calling the save icon- a floppy disk, the "TV icon" while this might in fact be what we are seeing, it might simply be an interpretation of something else, such as a damaged shortcut overlay.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

I'm guessing it's an i enclosed in a red circle ;). The poster is clearly intelligent and I take him at his word (not something I'm generally prone to do, by the way) - but I also hear you - though it certainly doesn't sound like a damaged icon overlay to me.
