    Control Panel missing componants
    « on: December 06, 2009, 05:52:17 PM »
Ok, so I noticed that for a while I haven't been here my microsoft sounds when I boot up and shut down my machine. At first I thought that I didn't have the sound files but that wasn't it.

I went into control panel, sound and audio devices and click on the sound tab. Under the program events list, I notice that many of the program events were missing such as windows start up and windows shut down. This is why I wasn't hearing any sounds when I would shut down and start my computer.

My question is, how do you get those items back on the program event list?

I use windows XP home edition computer.

    Any help or suggestions?

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
    sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy (with Vista, most likely, you won't need it).
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista case).

I did this already and the program events are still missing.

Eh, I shouldn't care but it just annoys me LOL

My PC is 6 years old so I probably deleted something that I wasn't supposed to.

In XP the sounds are in
      C:\WINDOWS\Media

You may be abler to 'borrow' some sounds from vista.

No, no, I have the sounds they do work when I click on them in the media folder.  What is missing is the items in the program list to which the sounds are assigned.

For example, if I wanted to assign a specific sound to Windows Start, I couldn't do so becuase Windows Start is not listed in the program event list.  I do have the windows start sound but no even to attach it to.
