    wireless router problem

    I have a rca dcw725 wireless gateway router. I am using a Dell Inspiron netbook and a xbox360 hooked to this router the netbook is wireless the xbox is wired. After 20 minutes or so I will get disconnected from internet and the second ethernet port on my router will be lit up but nothing is plugged into it. I will reset my router and it will work good for another 20 minutes or so. I need help this is getting really frustrating...

        Can anyone tell me why the second ethernet port shows a connection when there is nuthin plugged into it

        They go on every phone line...
        If an incoming phone call drops your connection you need more of them...
        Call your provider...they hand them out like candy.

        Check this and see if that's whats taking place.

        Also, would help to know how long he has had the DSL service. How old is the router. Did the problem start recently after some change.

        How many times has it failed after twenty minutes?

          i got dsl service and router first week of dec. its been doing this the whole time. ive tried asking my provider but either the person didnt know at the time or i cant even get through.

          It has times when it will disconnect 5 or 6 times in 20 minutes other times it may go 45 minutes

            ok as far as those filters there is no phone lines coming through only cable in the house

              stev, As you are new to the DSL phenomenon here is what Patio is referring to with the suggestion of "phone filters". As he said it should not be necessary to "buy " them as usually your DSL provider will supply some (3-4) usually. But you must have one on every line where a phone is connected (except the line leading to the ISP provided DSL modem) so if you have more phone lines you may need to purchase extras. They are very inexpensive and 2-3 dollars per ought to do it. truenorth

                stev, so we are on the wrong tack IT appears that you do NOT have DSL what you have is a "cable " high speed connection. Correct? truenorth

                Some clarification does seem needed here.  stev, is your broadband Internet access provided by your cable company or it is a telephone-line based connection?  DSL is a telephone-line based connection.  So, DSL or cable, which is it? 

                The filters mentioned in this discussion apply to DSL, not to cable. If you have DSL, your ISP would normally have sent you some DSL filters along with the modem. 

                Who is your ISP?
