Can't open .wmv files now, I used to before?

My wife used to be able to open .wmv files and view her exercise demonstration videos and now we get an error saying to "create an association" under control panel- folders. How do I do this or what changed and what can I do about it? Running XP home edition

When a wmv file will not open in the email, download to the desktop.
Right click and choose open with "Windows Media Player" from the  list. For example:

When I right click on the file to open, the word "open" comes up, but not "open with". When I click open, it says that I need to create an association. Can't do that without the "with". When I saved the email to my desktop and opened, it worked. But do not want to have to always do that.

Open Windows Explorer. Click on TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - FILE TYPES. Scroll down to .wmv, highlight, click on "change", make sure there is a tic in "always use the selected program...." then browse to Windows Media Player & select it.
