    Cannot get past memtest86

    I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my computer. Everything was fine until I installed Google Chrome on it. A message popped up saying I had to reboot to save changes, so I did. When my computer started up, it ran Memtest86+ (before going into Windows or Ubuntu). I let it run, and when it looped back, I pressed Esc, but it came up again once I rebooted. I haven't been able to get past it. I've checked the BIOS, there is no configuration for Memtest.

    Is the CD/floppy still in the drive ? ?

      Not sure why it would wind up as a startup item...
      Try booting into windows safemode and disable it.

        Memtest comes up before I can boot to an OS.

          Well this is what happens when I start my computer:

          The Dell screen pops up.
          A command prompt-type deal appears that says GRUB Loading...
          Memtest starts.
          If I press Escape it repeats the process.

            I will try that, but I don't have access to the disc atm, roommate is using it.

              I tried those, and got the same reuslt as just pressing Esc. As for the link above, when I type $mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/temp/ its says "mount: special device dev/sda3 does not exist."

              Then you have a botched Linux install...
              Not sure what to recommend from here other than a wipe and clean install of both OS's.

                I have a Windows 7 setup.exe, but I can't run it from the Ubuntu CD, do you know what I could open it with (what application)?

                The reason your system is wonked i'm assuming is your trying to install an OS with another OS running...
                This almost never produces good results.
                Decide which OS you are going to use as the main one...backup any data you need from that drive as it needs to be wiped to fix these issues and let us know...
