removal of HP printer associated programs
« on: January 22, 2010, 07:28:57 PM »
I just recently purchased my first HP product, an Officejet J4580. There are two associated programs (1) HP Customer Participation Program 10.0 (282MB) (2) Shop for HP Supplies (260 MB). I don't plan to use these programs and because they are so large I would like to remove them. When I go to Add / Remove Programs and attempt to remove them this is what I'm told; Removal of these programs is NOT recommended if you are going to continue to use any of the following devices with computer --- J4500 series.
What I'm wondering is; is this just a ploy or could some of the other associated HP programs be effected? I realize that I could just remove these two programs then if I did have problems I could reinstall the complete program. But if you could help in would be greatly appreciated.
Now should you tell to go ahead and remove them, they also say to unplug the device. If the printer is shut off why should it have to be unplugged?

Thank you for taking this question.

In my opinion, they sound like junk programs that HP added on... I would probably just get rid of them and then see if the printer still works.  I bet it will, but if it doesnt just reinstall everything like you said and fallow their directions.

    Good Luck!

I've used a lot of HP equipment over the years.  A lot of non-pc type test equipment and several HP printers and computers.  Except for the cheapest printers, most of the equipment was very good.  Their software is a different story.

How could anybody write a 260MB routine to order ink?
