crashing on start up (xp)
« on: June 30, 2005, 05:22:03 AM »
Hi, i have just developed a problem with my computer crashing on startup. It either freezes or goes blank. At times it doesnt startup at all, or it goes after a minute or so when i've managed to get onto the internet. However once its been ok for a few minutes its fine , it never crashes once the system is going.Any help would be great.

thanks Russ

Try the following:

1. Before Windows XP loads, press F8
2. Select Last known working configuration and press Enter.

What type of programs are running at startup?

hi

sorry to bother you, thanks for your advice (startup crashing) By looking into what you said  i've made a bloody stupid mistake and got the computer stuck in diagonstic mode!! (I know i'm an idoit!!),i've posted this thread..."Hi

I've managed to get my computer to be stuck in diagonstic mode;after doing msconfig; i,ve tries to get back to normal set up , but after rebooting it stays in diagonstic. Hence the internet wont load ..I get PPP error or modem not plugged in (when it is). I've reloaded my internet connection disc, but to no avail.  Any ideas how to get back to "normal". Thanks  Russ (clueless)", i wonder if you have any advice, thanks once again

russ

You are using Dial-up?

You may need to reinstall Modem or Network Interface card drivers.
