Using MSCONFIG to edit Windows Services or Startup entries is dangerous, and should not be done, unless the user is advanced in editing the System Configuration. Microsoft specifies this tool as useful to edit the System Configuration without the hassle of typing errors in Windows Notepad scripts or System Configuration Editor.
Using MSCONFIG to edit Windows Services is dangerous because it can disable or delete a Windows Service from the computer. Which, in return, the user must go and reinstall the product, or re-enable the Service that was disabled.
Using MSCONFIG to edit Windows Startup is dangerous, because: A. it does not completely delete the entry from the Registry, B. When switching back to Normal Mode (if edited in Safe Mode) the orphaned entries can cause boot errors, and slow Startup of the OS, C. MSCONFIG does not list all locations where Applications start up or load, due to hidden/system driver entries (Autoload O20).
Therefore, as a result, it is not recommended to give advice about MSCONFIG.
