Why Can't I download Pictures

Hi All
I'm a total novice with PC's. When I try to download pictures from the net, I can only download them as html files or art files. Neither of which I can open up again!

    Having the same problem. Running windows xp on an athlon 1.8 ghz 512 ram , temp internet files have been cleared. Using aol. Can only save as art or bitmap. Why is this?

    Perhaps the webmaster of this site did that on prupose so nobody could steal the files  ;)
