Prevent Microsoft Outlook from automatically connecting to the Internet.

Issue:

Prevent Microsoft Outlook from automatically connecting to the Internet.

Cause:

Microsoft Outlook, by default, will attempt to connect to the Internet if an Internet connection is not present.

Solutions:

Microsoft Outlook 2000 users

  1. Click Tools from the top drop down menu
  2. Click Options
  3. Click the "Mail Delivery" tab
  4. Uncheck the option to check for messages every x minutes.

Additionally, Microsoft Outlook 2000 users can also have Outlook prompt on dial-up connection through this window.

Microsoft Outlook 9x users

  1. Click Tools from the top drop down menu
  2. Click Services
  3. Highlight "Internet Mail" and click properties
  4. Click the "Connection" Tab
  5. At the bottom of the connection tab either specify work offline, or change the scheduling to a higher number.
