Are flat panel LCD monitors good for gaming?

Question:

Are Flat Panel LCD monitors good for gaming?

Additional information:

Early LCD / flat-panel displays were notorious for their slow response time (sometimes referred to as refresh rate). Although a slow response time is fine for text and other slow images, when these displays were used on anything with fast moving graphics, such as many computer games, the graphics would become blurry, and in some cases hurt the user's eyes or head if used for too long.

Because of this issue, many users will not purchase LCD displays / flat panels because of their belief that it will not look good with their games.

Answer:

Most flat panel / LCD displays today are more than adequate for computer games and any fast moving graphics. When looking for a flat panel / LCD display to purchase, look for the response time of the display, this value will be listed in milliseconds. The lower this value is, the quicker the display will refresh, and the crisper your game or fast moving graphics will appear.

For example, a display with a 8ms response time is going to look better than a 35ms response time. Below is a listing of other common response times with flat panel and LCD displays.

4ms
5ms
8ms
12ms
14ms
15ms
16ms
18ms
20ms
21ms
23ms
25ms
30ms
35ms
