1. Short for Digital Satellite Service, DSS is a transmission system for DirecTV's satellites. It is used to broadcast satellite television.

2. Short for Digital Signature Standard, DSS is an algorithm that generates a digital signature to authenticate electronic documents. It was created by the NSA (National Security Agency) and then implemented by the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in 1994.
