Short for pseudo-terminal slave, pts is a process of a pseudo-terminal that may be shown as pts/0, pts/1, pts/2, pts/3, pts/4, pts/5, pts/6, pts/7 etc. when looking at processes or users in Linux. Each time a program is ran a new pts is created. For example, the shell you use and a program such as pico will each have a pts.
