    Downloading Dell Drivers
    « on: February 17, 2010, 06:02:03 AM »
    Hello.

I did a clean XP install on a Dell Optiplex 170L desktop.  Now I need ethernet and video drivers.  I can't seem to access Dell's download websites; maybe there are too many other people trying to download?

    Two Questions:

    1) Is there another site I can get Dell drivers?

    2) I'm using another computer to get the drivers (no ethernet driver in the Dell yet), when I download, do I "save as" and put on a cd or thumb drive?

    Thank you.

Go to the website of your video card manufacturer for the video driver.

You did install the chipset driver, correct? Also, I just checked the Dell support site and there is no problem logging on.

For whatever reason, Dell's download site is non responsive from here.  I installed the os from the Dell oem cd; I don't have the drivers cd.  The computer works--video vga only and no audio or network.  I suppose their are chipset drivers or it wouldn't work, right?

So, is there another site with Dell drivers?  Do I just "save as" to put on a thumb drive?

Wrong. You need to download and install the chipset driver first.

I don't know why you can't get to Dell Support, but I'd be concerned with that if I were you. But to answer your question, all drivers can be downloaded from the component hardware manufacturer websites. And yes, you can transfer the drivers to the system via usb drive, cd, floppy - whatever you like.

It hangs up half way through.  Strange, I get 5MB download!

I'd try Dell support from a different computer then. Obviously the easiest way to get your chipset driver is by entering your service tag number on their driver download page.

Or are you using an ad blocker or any other kind of utility that interferes with browsing? You can also try a different browser.

Thanks, I'll have to do that then (wish I knew why some sites can't come up from here?).  Or, I'll open up the computer case and get mobo/chipset info and go to the mfg's sites--do you think that will work?  Thanks again Allan!

You don't need to open the case. Just download and run everest
