Toshiba Develops 1TB SSD That Fits On A Postage Stamp
« on: February 15, 2010, 10:11:26 AM »

SSDs are still overpriced for most average consumers, but the companies responsible for making them are constantly searching for ways to make them larger (in terms of capacity), smaller (in terms of form factor) and cheaper (in terms of real dollars). Toshiba has their own line of solid state drives right now, but just as the company has innovated in the optical storage department, they're also hoping to innovate in the world of NAND storage.

The future of portable media players? Fitting that much capacity on something that small is really going to revolutionize the market. It depends how much it will cost.

70% more power efficient than the average 2.5" SSD
Again. That would be useful for portable media too.

I'm sure over time with more technologies like this prices will go down. I remember paying $900.00 for my 1GB hard drive.

Ouch. Thats almost as much as this computer was. This was like 3 years of savings for me. Spending that much on a component that's considered relativley cheap would so strange. I bet in the future it'll be the PC with the 1 petabyte drive thats becoming more and more common.
Just out of intrest, when was it that you brought the 1 GB drive?

Yikes, umm I'd guesstimate that it was probably early 90's. Maybe 1991. Also although I hate hearing myself say it I think in the future disk storage will be a thing of the past and most if not everything will probably be stored in a type of Internet cloud based off how things appear to be going.

Woah. That's a long time before I was anywhere near a computer.

Gawd. Before anyone sells me anything to do with cloud computing, they better fix the internet I get. My data at 50KB/s? No thanks. I'll just stick with the good old HDD. And it's supposed to be good internet here.

I still remember a Dollar per MG for storage...
A 500 MG HDD was roughly $499.00 Bucks back then...
