Please Help A Numpty in distress?! :-)

Hi All,
Am very new on here.  I am not a bit technical & am struggling badly with a new HP Photosmart C4680 I can't get working.  It installed ok (I think) but when I go to print something, it takes the paper, whizzes it through the machine & spits it out still blank.   

Please, I am sure you very clever peeps know what I have or haven't done wrong?

Forgive a silly question, but you did install the ink cartridge(s), correct?

Sorry for posting twice, I am new & got the wrong one the first time 

not a silly question  I think the cartridges are ok, they clicked in ok & sounded solid, is there another way to check?

There should be an option to print a test page in the HP utilities.

I tried this but it does the same thing with shooting the paper out blank?  When I first installed it, it printed the test page ok, I am sure its something simple, but not knowing the first thing about them am struggling what to do next.

It's an all--in--one, correct? What happens when you try to photostat (copy) a page?

Have you tried to reboot the system and try again?

Hey - that worked - it printed the copy!  Yes, it supposed to scan, copy & print.  When you say reboot, do you mean just switch it all off & try again?  Have looked to see if it requires toner, but toner isn't mentioned in the book & I can't see a place for it to go.  I just tried to print a word doc though & it spat out blank paper again!!!

No, I mean reboot (restart) the computer.

sorry, I don't know the terminology either    yes, the computer has been on & off lots.

Well, if the driver software for the printer has been installed correctly I'm at a loss. Try one other thing please. Open either Notepad or Wordpad, create a document, and try to print. Same thing?

I tried what you suggested - from notepad document - & it spat it out blank again.  When I go into printers & faxes it shows up as online & ready, the printer tells me it is printing & then .. nothing.  How can I tell if it is installed correctly?

If it shows up in Printers as the default printer and it's ready, that should be fine. That's it for me, sorry. But please hang around and see if anyone else has some ideas.
