After getting an attack of Antivirus Soft malware while surfing the Web with AVG Free, I replaced it with AVG 9.0, then downloaded/ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware & RKill, then ran AVG, which seemed to get rid of it.
Trouble is, every 10-15 minutes or so my system now slows to a crawl or freezes entirely for about 15 minutes. When it does, the program "avgcmgr.exe" appears & takes up around 150900K of memory (private working set) - (Description: Prevalence Reporter). The next biggest process listed, Host Processes for Windows Server, takes up just 36500K of memory.
My comp will also occasionally note that its running slowly & ask if I want to switch to Windows Basic colors, but I just close this window, fearing it might be some malware.
Can anyone give any advice on eliminating the malware (if it's still there) and stopping my comp from slowing? I've tried Disk Defragmenter, clearing my Windows Explorer & Firefox caches, rerunning AntiMalware & AVG - nothing is working. I also downladed Avira & ran it, but no help there. (I run Windows Vista on my Gateway)
Thanks,
G
