Can't find the right drive
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:25:38 AM »
I have no clue what it could be, there is no info in the Device manager it just say, Other devices => Unknown device, on properties I only get this:

Code: [Select]
Unknown device

Device type: Other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: on PCI standard ISA bridge

Device status

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

And it don't say anything that could specify what it is, I didn't have it last time I reinstalled the computer and I don't think I should let microsoft try to find it with "Update Driver Software..."

Anyone know what it could be?

Are you saying you just did a new install of the OS? If so, install the chipset driver.

Well the ting is that I have no clue what my chipset driver is...

Here is Asus homepage with my motherboard, http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=lhJiLTN5huPfCVkW

But if I download

Code: [Select]
Description  AMD Chipset Program Driver WHQL V3.0.732.0 (Package Version 8.63) for Windows 7 & Windows 64bit 7.(WHQL)
File Size 120.15 (MBytes) 2009/07/31 update

I get "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" but I have no clue if it is the chipset driver, so it's kinda confusing around there... (but it is installed)

Yea I should mention that when I install the "Chipset" driver I get a error when I start the computer, the error is that it can't find a file, and I have to reinstall the OS to get rid of it, reinstalling the program dose not work, and thats the only reason why I reinstalled the OS in the first place.

Ok, I have now found out that I'm using a AMD 790FX and that there seems like to be no drivers for it at the AMD homepage, well I didn't any and the homage is just a big mess.

But I still have no clue where the drivers and what the Unknown driver is, so if anyone knows what it is do a replay.

Thanks.

Ok it seems to be nobody who know what AMD 790FX drivers are, if they really are the "ATI Catalyst Install Manager".

So new question, how do you know if you have installed your chipset driver?

Do not use third party utilities for drivers. Open device manager. Are there any errors?

Audio & LAN drivers are separate downloads.  Get the chipset driver from the Global download, not Global (DLM).

        This is a procedural issue.

No error just one yellow question mark.

I don't know what you are trying to say.

...I don't know what you are trying to say...
It's on the link you provided.  Click the Download tab, select the OS and there are all the drivers.  Chipset is 120MB download.  The files within do seem to be for ATI Catalyst, so could be a bad link by Asus.  Just use the LAN & Audio and forget the chipset.

WinXp chipset is only 5MB file, and the files within appear to be correct.
