No Sound - Help Please
« on: June 20, 2004, 03:18:58 PM »
Hi, I have an IBM Thinkpad T21 running W98 and have lost sound. The integral speakers are OK as I can hear the modem dialling and the various beeps on setup. I have downloaded new sound drivers and now have the volume icon and master control back, but still nothing.

I have been told that it is a software bug but have no idea how to fix this. I have run a virus check which comes out as clean and have done about all I can with my limited knowledge.

The CD/DVD seems OK as I can play films fine but just can't hear anything.

I would really appreciate any help - thanks.

The PC speaker has nothing to do with your soundcard, it will function without one.

Did you make changes to your configuration before you lost audio and who has told you it is a software bug?

The Onboard speaker (Correct name?) is not affiliated with your soundcard. It acts independently.

Try uninstalling your audio drivers and then reinstall the latest drivers.

I have installed new drivers and they show as enabled and working correctly.

I tried running dsxdiag and checked the sound which came up as : Failure at step 19 (user verification of software) HRESULT - 0xooooooooo (error Code), all of which means absolutely nothing to me, but I'm hoping it may mean something to someone on here.

Here's hoping.
