Error Message When trying to reinstall Adobe CS 3
    « on: October 05, 2010, 11:00:49 AM »
Hello... I Have a PC with Microsoft XP Professional OS Version 2002 and Service Pack 3 (Maybe that's the problem).  Anyway long story short when trying to reinstall Adobe CS 3 I get the error message: "I:\Adobe CS3\ Setup.exe" is not a valid Win32 application.  Does anybody know how to fix this?

Is CS-3 on a cd? If so the cd may not be clean. Clean the ed and try.

Did you uninstall the software and now want to reinstall it? And you got the error?

Harry:  is it new software or have you had it on that machine before?

You may also be attempting to run a 64 bit application on a 32 bit platform.

In a word yes. I bought this software new and the first time I installed it everything went fine.  To make a long story short I'm now reinstalling it and get the error message.

I'm not sure about the platform 32 or 64 bit, but it has been working fine on this same machine all along until now.

Open notepad.  Copy and paste this:

                Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

                [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe\shell\open\command]

                [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile\shell\open\command]

                [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]

                [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
                @="exefile"
                "Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

                [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]

and save it as a .reg file (make sure in notepad on the bottom it says "all files" and not just "text files" in the drop down menu).  double click the file once it's saved.  See if that works.

Other solutions that I would try would be to re-install java, and install ms vbm.  You can also download a program called ccleaner and use the registry tool.

                    Thanks OpenSource,

I tried your suggestion copying and pasting those comands to note pad and it didn't work.  I have cleaned the C drive etc...Still wondering about the error message  "I:\Adobe CS3\ Setup.exe" is not a valid Win32 application...
