After format of HD, XP cannot find my soundcard
« on: August 06, 2005, 02:03:51 AM »
I formatted my Hard Drive, fresh install of Windows XP.  I installed all Drivers and the only problem I ran into was with the soundcard.  I have the latest drivers from Creative, for the correct soundcard.  I tried removing and re-inserting the card.  I have tried everything I can think of, but I still get the window when installing the drivers, "No SoundBlaster sound card found".  Any ideas??

Here's my system...
Abit NF8-V Mobo
AMD 64 3000
1 gig Mushkin PC 3200 dual 512 sticks
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital
Maxtor 40g HDD
Western Digital 80g HDD
Sony DVD Writer
Sony CD Writer

Obtain the correct drivers. These (Sound Blaster Live! - LiveDrvUni-Pack English) often seem to do the trick.

That is the driver  pack I have been using.  Hmmm, if it is an incorrect driver issue, I'll try one of the other ones too.  This changed nothing, I'll post back if I find the right drivers.

Type dxdiag in the run box.......it should report erors!

Or could it be this:

Sound Blaster Live - Speaker Problem Fix

1) Locate the file called ctsurmix.exe in your Creative SoundBlaster folder.
2) Right click it and select properties and then compatibility.
3) Select win2000 compatible mode and it should work again

dxdiag, got the message "no sound card found.  If one was expectd install drivers supplied by the hardware manufaturer"

Sound Blaster Live - Speaker Problem Fix ~ I am unable to do this since the Creative software will not even install since it cannot find a SB sound card.

I noticed that I have 2 multimedia audio devices showing exclamation points over the yellow "?".
1st~ PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0
2nd~PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 2, device 7, function 0)

I am completely baffled.  I have tried ALL drivers available from Creative.  I have tried installing the sound card in EVERY PCI slot on the motherboard.

HELP!! this is driving me nuts!!

I tried installing realtek sound drivers and got rid of one of the sound controller problems~this one~ PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0 .  Now I am left with the other, which, I am assuming is the soiund card itself, since it shows the correct location.

OK, now I got the computer to recognize the soundcard, sort of.  It shows up under sound, video and gamecontrollers(SVGC).  Yet, it does not get seen when installing drivers from creative.  I still have the mutimedia sound controller issue, and no sound.  The SB sound card, in the SVGC area, under device manager,  in the properties for the Sound card, it says working properly.   yet under the sounds and audio devices in control panel it says no audio device.

OH boy now I am truly CONFUSED!!

Start from scratch:

1. Remove all entries related to the Soundcard.
2. Shutdown system
3. Remove soundcard
4. Boot system
5. Load Windows
6. Use a registry cleaner
7. Clean any remaining soundcard references manually
8. Shut down system
9. Insert soundcard
10. Use the original CD-ROM that came with the soundcard when Windows asks you to supply it with drivers.

Easy Cleaners
-- Freeware registry scanner
Registrar Lite
-- Excellent replacement for Windows Regedit
Crap Cleaner
-- Freeware registry scanner/history cleaner

Caution is advised when using these programs!
Create backups of all important files before proceeding.

How do I remove all the entries for the sound card?  Where do I look to find these files?

The rest of it I understood.

I meant folders and files that were left over. Perhaps none were, but you should search your system none the less.

Then he must be installing drivers for the wrong soundcard.

You should disable the onboard soundcard if you do not make use of it.
